DEFENSE COURSE A) INDIAN AIR FORCE FLYING BRANCH :- To join the Flying Branch of IFA you must be unmarried and fulfill the under mentioned qualification :- National Defence Academy (NDA) (for Men only) :- It is one of the permier Inter-Services Training Institutions of the world. You would undergo a 3-year training course before you are inducted as a pilot trainee at the air force academy. Qualification : Minimum 10 + 2 with Physics and Maths. (Students Studying in 12th std. can apply). Age Limit : 161/2 to 19 years at commencement of training Combined Defence Service Examination (CDSE) (For Men Only) Qualification :- Graduation in any discipline, with Physics & Maths at 10 + 2 level or BE/ B Tech. degree. (Students studying in Final Year can apply) Age Limit :- 19 to 23 years at commencement of tanning. (Entry to NDA and CDSE is through written examination conducted by UPSC followed by SSB tests.) Recommended candidates would be required to undergo a Medical Exam. Successful candidates would be directed to report for training based on an All-India Merit List. National Cadet Corps (NCC) (For Men Only) Qualification :- Graduation in any discipline with Physics & Maths at 10+2 level or BE, and Senior Division Air Wing NCC 'C' Certificate. Age Limit : 19 to 23 years at commencement of training. candidates should apply through CO NCC Air Squadron in Apr and Oct each year (Candidates short listed by DGNCC will be directly called for SSB interview by IFA) Short Service Commission (for women only) :- Qualification :- Graduation in any discipline, with Physics & Maths at 10 + 2 level or BE/ B.Tech. degree. Age Limit :- 19 to 23 years at commencement of training. After SSB tests followed by medical examination and merit position, the selected candidates will be trained at the air force academy, along with other trainees selected through CDSE or trained at NDA. As a fyling Branch officer, after being commissioned in the rank of Flying Officer you start flying as a Squadron Pilot. With experience and seniority, the role and responsibilities also increase, whereby one may become a Flying Instructor, a Flight Commander, a Squadron Commander and later on a Station Commander. Based on performance and senirority, you could aspire to be promoted to the highest ranks of Air Marshal and Air Chief Marshal.

Age limit :- 18 to 28 years at commencement of training. As a technical Branch Officer you will join the Air Force in the rank of a Flying Officer and will be directly involved with engineering activities. As one grows in the service and gains experience, one is entrusted with additional responsibilities of supervising and training the juniors. The IAF plans your career well by offering you various courses and higher technical qualifications in India and abroad so that you are able to fulfill your aspirations as the best in the field. UNIVERSITY ENTRY 'BONANZA ' SCHEME (UES) (For Men Only) Eligibility : The applicants must be currently studying in Pre-final year of BE/B Tech course in the relevant streams of engineering fields as applicable to AEC courses. There must be no backlog/ arrears of papers of previous semesters. Age Limit : 18 to 28 years. Selection : All eligible candidates will be called for Engineering Knowledge Test. (EKT) either be Commd HQs or AFSBs. EKT will be the screening test which will have only objective multiple choice questions on general engineering and specialized subjects. All those candidates who qualify in EKT will undergo two phase personality test at AFSBs subsequently. Later the recommended ones will be called for medical examination. Special Stipend : All finally selected candidates will be paid a stipend equivalent to the initial basic pay (no allowances) of Fg Offr rank for 12 months period for the final year of study of engineering on completion of training. On reporting to AFA these candidates will be granted provisional short service commission on probation and subsequently considered to permanent commission at the commencement of specialist phase of training at AFTC. TECHNICAL BRANCH (AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING COURSE) Qualifications Electrical Communication/ Electronics & Communication/ Instrumentation/ Computer Science & Engineering or a combination of these subjects. or Diploma in Electronics of Madras Institute of Technology. or B.Tech in Radio Physics and Electronics/ Optics and Opto Electronics or MSc. Degree in Physics (With Electronics)/ Electronics/ Computer Science/ Computer Application/ MCA with Maths, Physics and Electronics at graduation level or MSc. Tech in Electronics and Radio Engineering. or Section A&B Examination of the Associate Membership Examination of the Institute of Engineers (India) in Electricals, Electronics or Telecommunication subjects or. Graduate Membership Examination of the Institute of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineers with subjects of Section B by actual studies. ( Maths, Applied Electronics and Circuits, Principals of Communication Engineering Transmission lines and Networks. Section A and B of Examination of Aeronautical Society of india by actual studies in Avionics/ Communication streams. BE/B Tech in Aeronautical/ Mechanical/ Production / Industrial Production or a combination of these subjects. Section A and B of Associate Membership Examination of institutions of Engineering (India) with Mechanical/ Aeronautical subjects by actual studies.or Section A and B of Associate Membership Examination of the Aeronautical Society of India with Group (design and production) or Group II (Maintenacne, Repairs & Overhaul ) Subjects by actual studies. OPERATIONAL SUPPORT GROUP (GROUND DUTIES BRANCH ) The science of management and Administration originated from the ancient Armies. Managing men and material in most adverse conditions of war demands the best in quality of leadership and human skills. In addition to the sophisticated aircraft and weapons, Indian Air Force has an Operational support group comprising highly trained and qualified personnel responsible for keeping the machines flying. Officers of the ground duties branch have a crucial role in managing men, finance, and material, creation of educational facilities for better human resources development and provisioning of equipment, ration and clothing for them. The officers in Met and ATC branches are also responsible for unraveling the mysteries of weather for safe aviation and controlling the movement of aircraft. Qualification :- Administration , Logistics branches. graduates with 60% and above marks or post graduates with 50% marks and above marks or an MBA or post graduate diploma in Business Administration (Two year full time or three year part time course) from institutes recognized by All india council for technical Education with 50% marks. Age Limit : 20 to 23 years for graduates and 20 to 25 years for post graduates. for Law graduates (3 year course) the upper limit of age is relaxed upto 26 years. Account Branch :- Qualifications :- B Com/ B Com (Hons) with 60% and above marks or M Com with 50% and above marks. ICWA/ Chartered/ Registered/ Incorporate Accountant together with M Com/ B Com Degree are eligible for apply. Age limit : 20 to 23 years for graduates and 20 to 25 years for post graduates. The age is relaxed upto 27 years for CA/ ICWA etc. Education Branch : Qualification : MA/ MSc. with 50% and above marks in English/ Psychology/ Defence Studies/ marks in English/ Psychology/ Defence Studies/ Mathematics/ Physics Statistics/ Computer Science Mathematics/ Physics/ Statistics/ Computer Science or MBA or Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration ( Two year full time or three year part time course) from institutes recognisied by All india Council for Technical Education with 50% marks with a combination of minimum two subjects out of physics, Maths, Statistics, English, Psychology, or Defence Studies at BA/ BSc. level. Age Limit : 20 to 25 years at commencement of training. The age limit is relaxable upto 27 years for those who have done M.Ed/Ph.D Meteorological Branch : Qualification : M Sc in Physics/ Applied Physics/ Meteorology/ Geophysics with Meteorology and Oceanography/ Oceanography with specialisation in Meteorology/ MA/ MSc in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics/ M Tech in Atmospheric Science from IIT, Dehli, with 50% and above marks. Age Limit : 20 to 25 years at commencement of training.
WOMAN IN IAF 1. Mythology and History is replete with instances of warrior women who in their individual capacities were respected, worshipped and in many cases have even been saviors of their nations. In the present era, the organised induction of women in the Armed forces as an armed cadre has been an innovative, challenging and revolutionary step. 2. In recent years, the challenging Indian social scenario has seen an increasing public demand. for greater praticipation by women in all fields. The evolving new woman is discovering a whole new self. She is storming male citadels everywhere and the defence Service are not left untouched. 3. Indian Air Force was the first amongst three wings of the Armed Forces to entrust women with a combat role. The IFA offers Short Service Commission (SSC) for women in all its Branches viz. Flying, Technical and Ground Duties Branch for a period of 10 yrs. which is extendable by 4 yrs. subject to availability of vacancies and performance of the officer. Unmarried women candidates can apply for SSC in the officer cadre of IAF. Age and Educational Qualification criteria are the same as applicable to male candidates in all the Branches. Note : The upper age limit for Flying Brach is relaxed to 25 years for holders of Commercial Pilots' License (CPL). 4. After undergoing an exhaustive and rigorous training schedule at various training establishment women officers are ready to take an exciting and challenging career in the IAF, They are placed at various frontline bases and squadrons across the country as pilots, engineering and ground duty branch officers. During their tenures they are subjected to various professional challlenges including combat exposure without any gender bias. While performing a thrilling role as an Air warrior they also confront various peace time exercises on ground and air and real time exercises at various operational locations. 5. The inputs received from various field units show that women officers are performing well in all the branches of the IAF. Women officers have not only proved their worth in their respective profession but also stepped into the world of adventure sprots like sky diving, scaling montains, para jumping etc and proved that they are not dainties as considered. 6. Technological advances in defence equipement have rendered physical strength less important than intellect, an area in which women are equal to men. Thus today a women, who is willing to bear equal burden as men . can achieve whatever goals she desires, SELECTION PROCESS We have a scientifically designed and time tested three-pronged system of personality-based selection. The selection interview is conducted at any one of the Air Force Selection Board located at Dehradun, Mysore, and Varanasi. The process is conducted over a period of 5 to 6 days at government expense. and compriss a psychological test in written format, Group Test conducted both indoor and outdoor and an interview as an informal communication between you and the interviewing Officer. Candidates for Flying Branch are required to undergo a Pilot Aptitude Battery Test. (PABT) which is a once in a lifetime test. All types of tests will be fully explained to you before they are administered. All Successful candidates are recommended by the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSB). Recommended candidates are called for medical examination at IAM, Bangalore or AFCME, Dehli. Those who are found medically fit are placed in the merit list and detailed for traning as per the vacancies SELECTION SCHEDULE
